Response Paper:  Complete a 700 1,100-word response paper on strategic management for your organization that incorporates the following:

o    Defines strategy, strategic intent, and competitive advantage.

o    Explains sustainable competitive advantage and explores related strategies

o    Explores implications of globalization on strategic management

Economic Solution

Answer these two economic questions with originality and precision.

1.    What is a key challenge or opportunity presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences?

Short answers (no more than 300 words). Your answer might capture a seemingly simple detail of public or private sector practice that you think doesnt make sense or could be made much better. Or it could describe a big change in how we could live or are living our lives, or how our economy or society works. You dont have to have a solution: sometimes just identifying a problem or opportunity is an important insight in its own right. As such, we you need to be innovative, surprising, or incisive identification of a challenge or opportunity created by the current crisis.

2.    In the case of a problem,  how might we fix it? In the case of an opportunity, how do we capitalize on it?  Plus a heading for the question

(No more than 1000 words). This could be a solution to a challenge you have identified, or it could be an idea in response to the challenges identified by others.  Your idea might be a quick plan for a fix of a frustrating but ubiquitous piece of bureaucracy, or a process linked to handling the current response to coronavirus. It could be an idea for a better way of getting the economy back on its feet faster or reducing the social or economic impact on a group or sector. Or perhaps it is an idea you have had for a while for improving our society, or environment, and that you thinks time has finally come.  As students, your ideas need to generate originality, practicality, and impact of ideas.

Discussion

Discussion Question #1.  In Chapter 3: Review the change management images outlined in Table 3.1 which image (or images) do you relate BETTER to when faced with changes in which you are currently engaged?  In your answer, explain WHY you think that is. Cite your references in APA format.

assignment 1

Should the United States Senate eliminate the Legislative Filibuster? If yes, Why? If no, Why not? What if anything, does the history of the filibuster teach us about the present and future impact of such a decision?

This assignment is a Research Assignment. You must research academic journals, think tank publications, findlaw.com, articles from major newspapers and other reputable sources. (Wikipedia is NOT a credible academic source.)

Along with substantive analysis, your papers should reflect what you believe I need to know based on your comprehensive research and analysis of what you read including opposing points of view. All assignments must be properly sourced and require research beyond the required and recommended readings.

For both assignments, please include:

Cover Page (with your name)
Abstract
Table of Contents
Substantive history, current facts, analysis
Bibliography (identify ALL your sources)

*IMPORTANT *

For all assignments, there are NO PAGE LENGTH OR STYLE REQUIREMENTS. As a graduate student, scholar and public administrator it is up to your discretion to determine how best to inform, teach and display the knowledge you have acquired through your independent research. You determine what is pertinent to include in your research paper based on the knowledge you have acquired through analysis and evaluation.

What have you discovered?
What were your findings?
What did you determine?
What do you think?
What is your plan?

Please refer to instructions

I would like you all to read the materials listed below. The two specific documents/events – The Report of the Commission on Global Governance in 1995 and the September Security Council Summit on Post-COVID-19 Global Governance – are both UN initiatives. The course is not about the UN specifically, though we will talk about it among other actors. It simply happens to be the arena where the term of global governance appears with greater frequency and in which the term has a more tangible/practical meaning. Both documents/events mark a watershed moment in the international system. Both aim to speak for and to the future. As you read through them, think about the notable differences between the two documents/events. Do they capture how you think about the meaning of global governance? Do they offer a credible response to the challenges that they seek to address?

Governance. (1995). (Access online here):

You can skim read the report but, please, give a bit more attention to chapters 1 and 2.

It is a 3-hour video, but there is a lot of empty space in-between the speeches. You might want to listen to the UN Secretary-General and a selection of other speakers. It is easy to scroll and locate each one.

1a,b,c all form part of a single effort to respond to the global crisis brought on by COVID 19. It is best to read/watch them in that order.

Communicating Risks

Please read the scenario below, and then answer the questions that follow in a 3 page analysis. The questions will guide your analysis of the situation, but need to be presented as part of a summary document to prepare for the discussion with your boss.

Scenario:

You are a project manager working in the mortgage banking industry. Your manager asked you to present the status of your project at a Project Oversight Entity get-away. This entity consists of the highest level executives in the bank. Your manager fears that funding might be cut and that the project might be closed if information is not properly communicated. You need to ensure that all questions regarding risk communication planning and execution are answered perfectly so that your project is approved. The project needs this approval before it can move to the next phase of the project management life cycle.

Project Oversight Entity members are not familiar with your risk management communication plan, so you need to be ready to answer all questions about the following:

*The communication process
*Communication planning activities
*Types of communication used to convey statuses to various stakeholders
*The steps you take to recognize and remove barriers to effective communication to ensure that
the right people receive the right message at the right time

Your manager wants you to watch the following three videos and then prepare by answering the list of questions that follow for a discussion about communicating risks:

Project Communication Management

1.What is meant by formal communication?
2.What are the methods of communication?
3.What are examples of informal communication?
4.E-mail communication is an example of which type of communication?
5.What is one way to express that you are effectively listening? What is an example of effective
  listening?
6.Which of the following is a characteristic of an excessive use of jargon?
7.What is an example of a barrier to effective communication? What are the guidelines for being
  respectful of your co-workers?
8.What are the barriers to effective communication?
