Create An Annotated Bibliography (WILL PROVIDE PREVIOUS PAPER)

ASSIGNMENT: Using your research question, working thesis, and outline from Touchstone 1.2, create an annotated bibliography that provides a synopsis of your sources and an explanation of how you will use them.

1. Annotated Bibliography

Make sure to:

Alphabetize the entries, according to APA style.
Include the required bibliographic information in APA format for each entry. Include 3-4 sentences for each entry that provide a short summary of the source and how you plan to use it to support your argument. Include at least seven entries in your annotated bibliography, all of which must be credible, academic sources. Choose your own sources, but use no more than three websites (there is no limit on the number of online journals used). Thoroughly check the formatting requirements for the different source types. Indicate the required sources (book, peer-reviewed journal, newspaper/magazine, and credible website) by including the source type in parentheses after the relevant entry.

2. Reflection

Have you displayed a clear understanding of the research activities?
Have you answered all reflection questions thoughtfully and included insights, observations, and/or examples in all responses?
Are your answers included on a separate page below the main assignment?

B. Reflection Questions

DIRECTIONS: Below your assignment, include answers to all of the following reflection questions.

  1. Accurately recording bibliographic information is essential and saves you time, as you can transfer this information to the References page of your drafted essay. Each source entry should include a brief summary of the source as well as 3-4 sentences describing how you intend to use that source to build or support your argument. Discuss how your annotated bibliography meets these criteria. (2-3 sentences)
  2. Which strategies were most helpful for you when searching for credible sources? (2-3 sentences)
  3. What difficulties did you face while searching for credible sources? How did you overcome these difficulties? (2-3 sentences)

D. Requirements

The following requirements must be met for your submission to be graded:

  • Double-space the bibliography entries and use one-inch margins.
  • Use a readable 12-point font.
  • All writing must be appropriate for an academic context.
  • Composition must be original and written for this assignment.
  • Plagiarism of any kind is strictly prohibited.
  • Submission must include your name, the name of the course, the date, and the title of your composition.
  • Submission must include your reflection questions.

Annotated Bibliography

(Note: Check the due date, this assignment is not due until Week Six. This assignment is worth 100 points and will take a considerable amount of time. Do get started right away. You are welcome to use your evaluations from Discussions #1 and #2 as part of this assignment.)

Submit your Annotated Bibliography (3-5 entries) in the correct MLA format.

(See the sample Annotated Bibliographies.)

Instructions:

For this assignment you will compile an annotated list of different sources. These may include academic journals, professional journals and magazines, books, organization literature, government reports, video, documentaries, websites, etc.

Include at least one book, one website and one peer-reviewed, scholarly article.

Try to spend a page on each article, providing information in the following areas:

  • summary
  • brief description of the purpose and intended audience/reader
  • implications for your research
  • relation to ideas in other sources
  • reliability/validity of the article
  • article presentation, description and effect (language, tone, style, format, etc.)

Present your information as a document for a researcher following in your footsteps, with your name, the date, and the tentative research question or title written up at the top. Also use headings and subheadings, bullets or numbering as needed.  List them in proper MLA bibliographic form. Alphabetize the bibliography as for “Works Cited.”

The whole annotated bibliography is double-spaced and alphabetized. Dont add extra spaces between entries. You should give your annotated bibliography a real title. Try something like this: Ma Raineys Blues and Feminism: An Annotated Bibliography.

Notes:

Though you are required to turn in only three source entries for this assignment, I highly recommend annotating all the sources you are considering. This is part of the research process and you will be asked to provide this type of bibliography in many situations. (In many disciplines, this is known as a Review of the Literature.)

Since your position and recommendations in the final paper must be supported by the most valid, relevant, and reliable sources in your subject area, you need to have a clear and thorough understanding of the quality and reliability of these sources, how they differ and why and how they might be useful.

This assignment is for you: It is an important part of your research materials. This bibliography will be instrumental in organizing your paper later on. You will be able to quickly review and decide how you will use each source. It can also spark new ideas and connections when you get stuck.

Ethnography Project TOPIC PROPOSAL

All students must present a musical ethnography, as outlined in detail in Chapter 11 of the textbook.  Your topic does not need to be “World Music” in nature; it can be any music of your choosing. You are encouraged to do a multi-media presentation, and may include interviews, musical recordings, video recordings, and/or a written report. You may go as high- or low-tech as you like, but be prepared with about 10 minutes of presentation material.

Each student will need to submit a proposal for their ethnography project topic.  Your topic does not need to be “World Music” in nature; it can be any music of your choosing. Consider choosing a topic that you either know a lot about, or one that you are interested in learning more about. For example, if you come from a culture that has very different musical traditions, you may choose to present on that subject. Or, perhaps you are interested in music from a culture that you do not know much about. This would also be a great topic of choice.

What is writing?  Has the definition of writing changed through history?  Has your definition of writing changed as you’ve had to write?

How does writing apply to your future career?  In what ways will it be important (or not) and what skills do you think will be the most helpful to you?

What is your writing process?  What helps you to be the most productive and produce the best work?

What is one thing you would like to know about me, this class, or if I can answer it, writing in general?

This essay is a chance for everyone to demonstrate where they are at in their writing processes and abilities.  Since this class is geared towards writing academic papers if you would like to include an intro, thesis, and conclusion you may.  However, what I will be looking at most is the way in which you support your claims, connect ideas that may not be immediately related to one another, and tie the paper together as a whole.

Put some thought into each of the questions, answer what you believe is most important, and do your best to bring it all together.

Compare and contrast paper

Need a 1050 to 1400 word Compare and Contrast paper. Going to be on the topic of success of a College graduate vs. a non-college graduate.

Focusing on drafting using the materials that you have gathered this far is an important part of the writing process. Each step taken to further the editing and revising of an essay will make it that much more polished as a final draft. Just as in most projects at work, there are steps to follow to produce a satisfactory final product in academic papers.

Review instructor feedback on your Week 1 to Week 3 assignments.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word draft of your comparison-contrast paper that makes seeing the differences and similarities of your chosen topics clear.

Use the topic you selected in Week 1, your research from Week 2, and your thesis and outline from Week 3.

Review your essay for effective use of basic English grammar, word usage, and sentence style before turning in your paper.

Format your assignment according to appropriate course-level APA guidelines

Topic 1: Infant Feeding Practices

Your friend is expecting her first child. In your first post, share with your friend the nutritional pros and cons of breastfeeding in order to help her make an educated decision about whether to breast or bottle feed. You may also share your personal experiences, but be sure to discuss the nutritional implications of each option. Make sure to support this information with resources such as the textbook and/or other reliable sources.

In addition, discuss when first and complementary foods should be added into an infant’s diet and why. You may include personal experiences and advice that has been passed on to you. Then, support your answers with information from the textbook and/or other resources.

Remember that your goal for Discussion Board is three-fold:

  • to get involved throughout the entire week

  • to contribute in a way that adds to the discussion and moves it forward in an original fashion

  • to use the course content to form your posts and responses

As a guideline, your main Discussion post should be at least 150 words and approximately 50 words when you respond to classmates and/or your instructor. These are just guidelines and you may want to include more words to convey your message on the topic.

Topic 2: Child, Teen, and Elderly Nutrition

Conduct some additional research on your own and be prepared to discuss the following in your initial post:

  1. Choose a nutritional problem for each age group:

    • children 2–12

    • teenagers 13–18

    • elderly 65+

  2. Discuss current trends and literature surrounding each of the three problems you have identified.

  3. Discuss steps you would recommend if you were appointed to a special committee to help improve these issues.

ASSIGNMENT 2: COURTS, PROSECUTION, AND THE DEFENSE

The courts have one of the most important roles in the Criminal Justice system. They are responsible for the interpretation and application of law when crimes are committed and they help to bring resolve to disputes between people, companies, and units of government.

In preparation for this assignment, please carefully review the case of Michael T. Slager below. Also, please review the court report samples below for reference in preparing a standard court report.

Module 1 Discussion: “Everyday Use”

After having read the Alice Walker story “Everyday Use,” please address the following discussion question and take part as directed.

The process of characterization–which will be the topic of our second major essay later on–is a process every author who has ever written uses to create his or her characters–even when the “character” is a robot, rabbit, straw or tin man, literally every character used in any writing. Authors have only four options to create a character:

1. have the character say something

2. have the character do something

3. have someone else reveal something about the character

or, more rarely,

4. step in as the author-narrator and tell about the character himself or herself

Alice Walker does nothing less than an absolutely amazing job of characterizing Dee for us–even though some of us will take her differently from others–and she does this through the things Dee does, days, and some few things her sister and mother tell us about Dee. Alice Walker does not ever step into this story and interrupt the narrator’s, Ms. Johnson’s monologue and narrative about Dee’s visit on this one occasion. For this discussion, point out one very important thing Dee does, Dee says, or Maggie or her mother says about Dee, something that really reveals something important about Dee. This will not be difficult as you very likely already know. Please follow the directions about participation and the quality and substance of your posts. More is better, and you will, therefore, receive somewhere between 1 and 100 points for your effort on this discussion.

M5A1

Your job is to choose the most appropriate type of report (informational or analytical) and the best approach (direct or indirect) and compose a draft of approximately 1 to 1-1/2 pages (500-750 words).

Scenario:

The company you work for is considering upgrading all its end user computer equipment (desktop and laptop computers, monitors, and printers). You have been asked to prepare a report regarding the differences between purchasing and leasing the equipment. Relevant information for your report includes the following:

  • The company currently has 100 employees, but it is growing.
  • Approximately 30% of the employees need laptops instead of desktops.
  • The building has five main work group areas, each of which has a dedicated high volume printer. A total of seven executives and their respective admin support personnel have dedicated printers, and Human Resources also has its own dedicated printer.
  • There is very limited IT support within the company (only two full time staffers).
  • The CFO generally prefers not to have large cash outlays.

•             Software is not required
